Overnight Hike
We are very excited to offer an overnight getaway into a beautiful spot that is completely off grid. You will need to walk to the hut which is a 6 hour walk with an elevation gain of 700m before dropping down into the gully that the hut is tucked away in. Wanting to get away from the world then booked for multiple nights and enjoy the relaxation that comes with no reception and no responsibilities. The hut can sleep 6 people and we have sleeping bags and pillows waiting for you at the hut and we will provide you with a sleeping bag liner to carry out. There is a fully equipped BBQ kitchen with pots, pans and cutlery already there, so just carry out your own food and clothing. When booking you can add on the DIY Sausage and Mash deal which will provided you with some beautiful home grown food to cook up out at the hut, which you will carry out with you.
Arrival
We recommend you arrive before lunchtime to give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the walk and make it to the hut before dark. You will be welcomed by one of the farm owners and have a chat about the route you wish to take with a map and any other information you may need.
We recommend that you download Toppo 50 maps so we can show you the route and ensure a safe trip the hut and back. Please be aware we don't provide any meals.
The Walk
You'll have the choice of which direction you set off in with either a steady wonder up the river bed and along the flats to the hut or you can get the climb over with and go up and then down into the hut. You'll be rewarded with stunning views across the valley once at the top. Some river crossings can be avoided but you will be getting wet feet at some point but its all part of the hiking experience. ​
The Hut
The hut is tucked in amongst the tussock clad hills near the back of our property. The hut has 6 beds, a powerful wee pot belly fire and a BBQ kitchen. You'll be able to enjoy the stars and silence as only a place in the middle of nowhere can offer. There is no running water here but we provide bottled drinking water and washing water in 20L drums there. The best part of the hut is that there is also no cell reception so you can truly unwind!
