OUR STORY

Kenmore Station has been in the Metherell family for 33 years, it was originally purchased by Greg and Karen in partnership with Gregs parents Bob and Mary. Years later Bob and Mary retired to Timaru and Greg and Karen continued to run the property and raise their two daughters Kim and Sammy. Kim has come home to help run the property these days and is the driving force behind the expansion into tourism. After traveling to multiple countries Kim has come to understand just how much of a gem we have here at Kenmore and is excited to share this place with more people.

ABOUT KENMORE STATION

Kenmore Station is located in the beautiful Otekaieke, South Island. Consisting of 2900 hectares the family run farm has 2500 half bred ewes and 200 Hereford Angus cows. Both Kim and Greg have a team of working dogs that help with the daily running of the farm, when visiting Kenmore you will get a chance to see some of these talented dogs in action. The dogs are a big passion for both Kim and Greg and they all live a pretty good life here. Although we all see the glamorous outdoor side of farming there is also a much more boring side which is paper work and we are very lucky that Karen is on top of this around here, while also maintaining an abundant vegetable garden, she really keeps this place going. The half bred is a versatile sheep that can produce stunning wool as well as tasty meat, the wool from these sheep can be found in many products such as clothing, carpets, seat covers and much more. The cattle are our favorite animal to work with here on the farm and we love seeing them out on the hills and enjoying life. We also have a lot of wildlife here on the farm from deer, goats and other pests, you may get to see some of these while you're exploring the farm. We are lucky enough to have hunters that harvest these pests and we can make some very tasty food with the meat.

Farm Tours

At Kenmore Station we are proud to offer an authentic farm experience to show you what we have here. The farm tours are available by bookings only. On a tour you will enjoy a walk around some of the paddocks and take a walk up a hill in order to get a stunning view. The tour will be guided by one of the farm owners so you will have a chance to ask as many questions as you want and get a true New Zealand farm experience. The tour will finish up at the woolshed where you will get to watch some of the working dogs in action as they work a small mob of sheep and of course plenty of photo opportunities as you go. While enjoying the show you will get to indulge in some home baking and a cup of tea.
