Our Back Door Step

Kurow is great local town for us, it has everything we need for the farm which is great as its only 15 minutes away. You will find 2 great pubs here along with a fish'n'chip shop and a lovely seasonal cafe. There are some great walks including Kurow hill or the Waitaki wetlands to explore so a great spot to check out.

We are very lucky that these cute little creatures call Oamaru home, you can book a tour and see them coming in from sea in the evenings. The Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony is a great spot to visit for all ages as you can learn so much about these wonderful little birds.

These random rocks that seem to appear from nowhere are something worth exploring while in the area! You can stop at the Vanished World Centre in Duntroon for a more information on these cool rocks.

Just an hours drive where you'll be spoilt with stunning lake side scenery you'll arrive at the Clay Cliffs which are a natural occurring rock formation that is quite impressive to see. We suggest sensible footwear as you will be walking on loose dirt in order to get the full experience.

There is some great fishing spots nearby with the Otekaieke being a great river early in the season or the Waitaki River. If fishing is what you are keen on we are also only 1 hour from the Twizel canals which are known for their salmon fishing.

We are lucky enough to have the Alps 2 Ocean trails passing along the end of our road, just 5 kms from the Quarters. The trail is a great way to see some beautiful scenery, you can leave from home and cycle to either Kurow or Duntroon which both have beautiful cafes to enjoy a coffee before returning. If you are doing the whole trail and want a pick up from the trail then get in touch with us. 

Just 15 minutes up the road we have the beautiful River-T wines which offers wine tasting and stunning platters or pizzas. its the perfect spot to enjoy the sunshine amongst the vines with good food! If you are feeling up to it you can even bike along the Alps 2 Ocean trail to get there. 

Oamaru has some lovely restaurants and cafes to enjoy as well as a great historic part of town with wonderful shops to browse. Oamaru is very proud of the history it has and this has been embraces by Steampunk, which you can check out their head quarters for something interesting to explore.
